Effetti di smettere di fumare - perché i polmoni saranno peggio, prima che si sentono meglio

When most people quit smoking they expect to feel better and to continue breathing easier with more energy, but there is a simple reason why you may feel worse for a while, but rest assured that you will get past it. Just don't use this brief period in your life as an excuse to start again.

Your lungs are very complex organs. Just imagine a sack with other sacks or compartments inside it. In these sacks there are structures called bronchioles. These are the things which become irritated when you have bronchitis.

Your bronchioles are lined with little things like hairs called Cilia. When you smoke for an extended time these cilia die off.

The cilia are involved in the Muco-Cilary Escalator which as the name implies carries mucus up so that you can cough it out easily.

This fails in a smoker and that is why the cough develops and there seems to be a lot of phlegm sitting in the bottom of your lungs.

When you quit smoking within a short time these little hairs start to grow back. As they do your ability to shift mucus improves. In the first six weeks after you quit you will be able to take a deeper breath but you will also notice that you want to cough more as your body and lungs tries to return to normal function.

Many people don't like this process and will complain that they feel worse since they stopped smoking, that they are coughing worse than ever and that all this fresh air is doing them no good at all.

Now that you are aware of this just treat the coughing period as a healing period of re-adjustment, don't be alarmed, instead be happy that the coughing is literally clearing out your lungs making way for new healthy tissue.

Breathe deeply and embrace every cough, because every cough puts you one step closer to recovering your health. Of course it's not just your lungs that are going through a period of re-adjustment; it's your whole body, every cell every organ is giving up the sludge that it has been immersed in for years.

Your body has literally been wading through a toxic sludge and it will take some time to recover and learn to live with clean air and clean blood. This may sound strange but your body has spent years trying to survive in a very difficult environment. But the great news is that in just a few weeks to months it will recover and you will feel fantastic for it.
